Apply now for The Push’s Electronic Music Accelerator program.
The Electronic Music Accelerator is a term-based learning program for young women and gender non-conforming music makers, producers and engineers in the beginning or early stages of their music career.
Over eight weekly sessions, program participants will have the opportunity to develop their skills in the field of electronic music production, grow their professional capacity, build relationships and master a variety of techniques using Ableton.
The Electronic Music Accelerator program is delivered weekly over eight weeks. Participants will attend sessions on either Tuesdays from 4:30pm - 7pm or Wednesdays from 5:30pm - 8pm.
Sessions will take place at The Push’s Electronic Music Incubator at Collingwood Yards.

How do I apply?
Due to COVID-safe restrictions impacting the number of people allowed in the Electronic Music Incubator, participants will be split into three groups, with each group attending on one of these dates:
Mondays 4:30pm – 7pm
Tuesdays 4:30pm – 7pm
Wednesdays 5:30pm – 8pm
Sessions will take place at The Push’s Electronic Music Incubator at Collingwood Yards, 35 Johnston Street, Collingwood.
Frequently asked questions
+ What are the requirements?
- Participants must be aged between 16 - 20 years old
- Be able to attend 80% of weekly in-person learning sessions at The Push’s Electronic Music Incubator, Collingwood Yards
- Have active internet, and ability to video conference via Zoom. (Please note: The Push offers financial support for travel and technology to participants from low-income households)
- Be involved as an active participant of the program until April
- Have an interest in developing a career in the electronic music industry
- Have an interest in using production software in your music making practice
+ Do I need to have prior experience in electronic music production?
Participants do not need to have any prior skills or experience in electronic music production
+ Do I need any gear or equipment to participate?
Nope! All participants will be given a free version of Ableton Live 10 Intro as a part of the program. We will work with participants to ensure they have access to the technology and software they need to fully participate. + Who can apply?
While the Electronic Music Accelerator program is open to young women and gender-diverse young people aged 16 - 20 years old, priority access will be given to:
- Young people from low-income households
- Young people currently not engaged in education and training
- First Nations young people
- Young people of colour
- Young people with a disability
- LGBTQIA+ young people
+ What will I get out of participating in the program?
Participants will develop both creative and professional skills, get opportunities to network, along with tips on how to build your creative community. This includes:
- Developing a basic understanding of electronic music production and musicality through the use of Ableton Live, plus skills in song writing, production, recording, engineering, sampling and DJ’ing
- Guidance on how to develop your own sound and build your self-confidence
- Grow your knowledge and understanding of music industry networks and pathways
- Build an awareness of future training and education programs, including industry internships, volunteer positions and paid employment within the industry
- Access to course materials and resources for further study
- Increased social connectedness across the electronic music making community
- You will also have the opportunity to voluntarily contribute to a research project attached to this program
+ Which artists, producers or engineers will I be learning from?
The Electronic Music Accelerator is led and facilitated by The Push’s Workshop Facilitator Beatrice Lewis. You will also learn from experts in Ableton Live, along with artists who are currently slaying it in the music industry.
+ How much does the program cost?
Participation in the Electronic Music Accelerator is free.
The Push offers financial support for travel and technology for participants from low-income households.
+ What happens if I don’t get in for Term 1?
All applicants will be notified of their application outcome on 21 December 2021. If you miss out on a spot in Term 1, you will be notified when applications re-open for Term 2. Keep an eye on your inbox!
