The workshop series brings together Lenny Trae (co-founder of Nomadic Funk),Nish Mathur (Melbourne House Dancer Founder/Melbourne Lockers) and Yung Philly (renowned Melbourne rhyme and beatbox MC, and host of numerous hip hop events).
TEACHERS
Lenny Trae (Co-founder of Nomadic Funk): Lenny is considered one of, if not the best, popper in Melbourne. He has brought popping foundations to the forefront and educated about its moves and history.
Nish Mathur (Melbourne House Dancer Founder/Melbourne Lockers): Nish specialises in house, lockin' and hip hop. One of the youngest dancers out there reppin' most styles under the urban dictionary, he continues to spread foundation history of the dance.
Yung Philly (renowned Melbourne rhyme and beatbox MC and host of numerous hip hop events): Yung Philly is a talented MC, beatboxer who hosts nearly all the hip hop events that occur in Melbourne. His ability to freestyle and keep the crowd entertained, places him as the most sought after host in town.

Push It! hip hop arena @ Push Over Festival 2010
The Push are proud to announce two new hip hop additions to the already rocking line-up for the upcoming all ages Push Over Festival, Sunday 7 March at the Abbotsford Convent.

DJ n.Cision and MzRizk join the list of awesome Aussie hip hop acts to perform on the Push It! hip hop arena proudly presented by Oz Hip Hop.
New-comer DJ n.Cision is an 18-year-old Melbourne turntablist, while MzRizk is fresh off the back of her Big Day Out performance with Silent Disco.
These two artists will be sharing the stage with established names in hip hop, Urthboy (The Herd) and Horrorshow, host Yung Philly, Push Underground acts:Anon Speak, B Wiv Deece, Bidla and The Creep Team.
MC and 3-on-3 Breakin Battles will also be happening throughout the day, with cash and prizes including advertising space on Oz Hip Hop and clothing/merchandise from This Is It.

Conjure Wrap Up
As part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival the Push It! hip hop dance crew performed at A.R.A.B's (Anti-Racism Action Band) event, Conjure, at Northcote Town Hall on Friday 16 October. Performing to a sold out crowd, the crew showcased skills in locking, house, poppin' and hip hop party moves to a responsive crowd. The crew, an extension from Term 1 and 2 Push It! programs, in partnership with Moreland Youth Services, performed together for the first time as a collaboration crew of participants ranging from newly arrived young people from the Brunswick Language Centre and NMIT, to the local kids from Brunswick Secondary College. Our Backyard 2009 Wrap Up
Special props to all the performers that were part of Our Backyard 2009 at the Arts Centre.
An estimated crowd of 1500-2000 came down to check out the talent keeping the vibe happening throughout the afternoon.
Special shoutouts to Sneaker Freaker, This Is It, Hoopdreamz and Umalicious for supporting the event out front.
All four elements of hip hop came alive and showed hip hop for what it is - a culture to be reckoned with!

City Beatz - Update

The Push It! City Beatz program (funded by City of Melbourne, Community Services Grant) now has a free CD featuring all the participants who attended 12 weeks of intensive workshops.
Featuring 8 tracks and 10 artists including Elf Tranzporter and Mantra (Illzilla), the CD focuses on themes about living in the City of Melbourne.
From tram inspectors to talking about the city streets this CD focuses on a young peoples perspective on daily living in Melbourne.
The artists will be performing some of these tracks at Our Backyard, Sunday 20th September, Hamer Hall, the Arts Centre.

Push It! Workshops
The Push currently have the Push It! hip hop dance crew doing their thing every Tuesday in preparation for a performance at A.R.A.B's Conjure show in October.
Proudly supported by the YMCA and Moreland Youth Services, the dedicated crew meet regularly with instructor, Nish (Melbourne Lockers), keeping it old school -building on skills in house, lockin' and party jams.
The Push It! hip hop dance crew program has been running since its beginnings through the Positive Body Image grant in term one this year. Since then the crew has built with dedicated numbers from Brunswick Secondary College, Brunswick Language Centre, NMIT and Antonine College. A.R.A.B (Anti-Racism Action Band) will be putting on the show, Conjure, including most local schools in Moreland and Hume participating as hip hop performers.

Sketch City is a monthly interactive art event held at
Dazzeland Studios at 25 Eastment St in Northcote, on the Third Sunday
of each month that allows contemporary street artists, illustrators and
doodlers to draw, paint and design with the materials we provide, on any
available surface! By turning the space into a giant canvas, artists have
walls to paint on, tables to draw on & unique installations to get
creative with, as well as seeing live painting by featured street artists
from all over the world!
Sketch City offers artists the space to network, showcase
their talent & create new work in a social & relaxed environment.
The creativity doesnt stop with the visual, with live music by some of
Melbournes best underground DJs, bands, singers and MCs, freestyling and

PUSH IT! FREE HIP HOP SESSIONS
The Push, 'Go For Your Life' and Brunswick City Baths
(YMCA) are offering 7 weeks of FREE Hip Hop dance sessions for females
aged 12-18 as part of the ‘Go for your life’ Positive Body
Image grant strategy. The program aims to increase awareness of positive
body image to young women in the Brunswick area.
WHEN: Every Tuesday from 17th February
(for 7 weeks only)
WHERE: St. Ambrose’s Hall, 3 Dawson St, Brunswick
(across the road from the Brunswick Baths)
TIME: 3:30-5pm
COST: Free but student must apply as numbers are limited.
HOW TO APPLY:

be signed by students’ parents and collected by the contacted Teacher/Organisation.
There are limited places for the sessions and successful applications
will be awarded a place dependent on a first in first served basis. All
applicants must commit to 7 weeks of participation unless unforeseen circumstances
apply.

Teacher/Organisation by the Push It! Coordinator by Tuesday 10th February.

Our Backyard 2008
The Our Backyard 4 on 4 bboy/bgirl battles is happening again and this time it is at Hamer Hall. (seats 2500 people!)
EVENT DETAILS:
Event: Our Backyard is a FREE event to the public celebrating hip hop in all it's different forms and represented in an afternoon of dance, beats, rhymes and energy. This is the event's 3rd year - last year was a FULL house. This event runs on a strict time schedule. The event celebrates the hip hop talent we have in our own backyard. Our Backyard is presented by the Arts Centre in association with The Push and Multicultural Arts Victoria as part of MIX IT UP. The show has been programmed by The Push.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young Australians (18-35 yrs) to perform to millions and win a professional dance prize, hard cash and the title - ‘Australia’s Favourite Dancer’. If you have a passion to perform Urban and Street Styles, Classical Technique, Acrobatic Hip-Hop, Commercial Pop-Routines, Ballet, Ballroom, Latin, Salsa, Contemporary, Traditional, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Avante Garde, Exotic, Lyrical Storytelling, or your own creative fusions it is time to show us your stuff! We want to see it all. Come down and get involved in the most exciting new television event this year…

You must be between the ages of 18 and 35 on February 1st 2008 to be eligible

Week after week the chosen finalists will be challenged by a fusion of hot dance styles such as Tango, Rumba, Krump, Jive, Cha Cha, Foxtrot, Samba, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, Popping and Locking, Blues, Broadway, Paso Doble and Mambo to name just a few.
If you are up for the adventure of a lifetime and you think you have what it takes to become Australia’s favourite dancer, you will be judged by three of the most accomplished dancer/choreographers in the world. They’ll be seeing you soon but only if you come to the auditions.
Dress to impress. There’s a $500 cash prize for the weirdest, wildest, most wonderfully presented dancer at EVERY audition centre.

The Our Backyard line-up includes a Breakin’ and Emcee battles,

A participant from last year's Push It! All Female Hip
Hop Crew (City of Melbourne funding) has formed her own hip hop dance
crew MIS, and placed 4th at Wanted, Saturday June 30th. A big congratulations!!!
Lady Lash, part of the last year's Push It! All-Female Hip Hop Crew and
Push Over's emerging artist set - Push Underground, has partnered up with
DJ MzRizk (a former FReeZACentral mentoree) as a performance duo. Get
ready to check them out at a gig near you.
Push Over's 2005 breakin' battle winners, PushOvers, now known as Anarchy
Tribe, took out the first qualifier for the Australian Bboy Comp at Wanted.
Their sets were amazing and have definitely set the bar higher for all
the other breakers out there. A big congrats!!

WANTED - is the third in a series of youth events organized by Mixedgen
- a group of ten community minded friends who come from culturally and
linguistically diverse backgrounds that live on or have a connection to
the North Richmond Housing Estate. Giving you what you WANT on the dance
floor will be Nomadic Funk poppers and lockers. Hollabak Crew will also
represent plus 8 killer breaking crews battling it out for the cheddar!
The hip-hop dance showcase competition will feature 4 super fresh units
bringin it in a brand spankin new format that will keep you guessing.
Local emcee Dragonfly with more than 20 titles under his belt will demo
and host a live freestyle cipher. Local femcees Hiatus and emerging Sudanese
and Liberian rappers will also show and prove their mic skills. Resident
club Dj and veteran of providing the soundtrack to many a breaking battle,
DJ Bacon will grace the decks. WANTED is not only about giving props to
a host of multicultural hip-hop talent, the proceeds will go to communities
who not only WANT it but NEED it; future inner city youth projects and
the Mary Villa Orphanage run by Good Shepherd Sisters, Malabon Philippines.

Street Science
Street Science is a FREE monthly hip-hop workshop, which focuses on developing
anyone who wishes to learn the arts of MC'ing, DJ'ing, Bboying, Graffiti
art and above all, teaching knowledge and history in these respective
arts. And for those who don't take part in any of the elements but still
appreciate the culture, Street Science is just as good to just chill in
a dope hip-hop atmosphere.
Street Science is held in the South-Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, in Noble
Park, a short 5 minute walk from the train station.
Amongst the Street Science team are some of the most talented, experienced
and friendliest of the Australian hip-hop community who are there month-to-month
to lend a helping and to everyone. People such as Solomon Theta and DJ
J-Red, as well as those who drop in and out from time to time such as
Delta, Dedlee, etc. Together with the many regulars who have been attending
for up to 4 years now, Street science provides a wealth of knowledge and
guidance for anyone interested.
Street Science is held on the last Wednesday of every month, at kicks
off at 6:30 pm and runs through till 9:30. The next Street Science will
be held on: FEBRUARY 28th. So make sure to rock down!
Once again, Street Science is FREE, and ALL AGES, so all are welcome.

Skip Hop - Aussie hip hop doco
Skip Hop is the end result of a three year labour of love
from all round producer, director and editor Oriel Guthrie, also responsible
for other films such as The 2004 and 2005 Australia Vs New Zealand MC
Battle for supremacy. Skip Hop screened at the 2005 Melbourne International
Film Festival and is the first documentary to showcase real Australian
hip hop culture.
The DVD features music from dominant Australian artists including The
Hilltop Hoods, The Herd and numerous MC battles. The film showcases some
of the pioneering crews that have influenced the culture from the very
beginning, including Def Wish Cast, Wicked Force Breakers and DJ Peril.

Graffiti Comp - Freshest Sketch Comp
2006 Annual Freshest Sketch Competition is open for entries.
Freshest Sketch is an Australia wide not-for-profit initiative by Stagga
Productions. Their goal is to provide writers with a legal platform to
show off their skills and be rewarded for their creativity and hard work
and educate people about graffiti and what true Hip Hop is.
Entry to Freshest Sketch costs $10 and entries close on the 1st December
2006.
As well as the website, entry forms are available from all fresh Hip Hop
Record Stores.
The Major Prizes Are:
