Short Term took out first place at the FReeZA Push Start Hume Regional Final on November 21 in Seymour. They will join eight other regional final winners to play at the FReeZA Push Start Grand Final to be held at Melbourne’s Moomba Festival on Friday 11 March, 2016.
Hi guys, what’s the name of your band, who’s in it and where are you guys from?
We are called Short Term and as the name suggests we have only been together for a short period of time (five months). There is 4 of us in the band, our lead singer Justin Boschetti, on bass Jesse Berend, on drums Jack Thomas and on keys Kate Hawkey. We all live in small town called Numurkah just past Shepparton and have been playing music individually for many years.
Briefly tell us the story behind your band and how long you’ve been making music and writing songs?
As a band we have only been together for the last five months, we started short term as a bit of fun to participate in our local battle of the bands. Individually however, all of us have been making music for many years and some of us even competing in the Battle of the Bands with other bands in previous years. Justin our lead singer and Jack the drummer have been writing songs together for the past 2 years and are continuing to collaborate in Short Term.
What are your band’s musical influences? Have they evolved from when you guys first started out?
Each members range from a broad range of influences, which I guess we are mashed up genres when it came to writing original material, with some blends of pop/punk bands such as Blink 182, All Time Low and The Maine, to some heavier breakdowns style such as bands like a day to remember.
Which Regional Final did you win, and how was the FReeZA Push Start competition experience for you guys?
We won the Hume Regional Final much to our surprise as we never really expected to come this far. We were up against some talented musicians and found it was a tough competition. We really enjoyed playing on stage in the FReeZA heats and the regional final and can’t wait to perform at Moomba!
You’ll now be battling it out with eight other bands at the Grand Final at Melbourne’s Moomba Festival 2016 for a pretty sweet prize pack. Which prize excites you most and why?
The recording and the promo would be a fantastic prize, would be great to get the opportunity to get our songs out there and also to get the band some exposure for upcoming shows.
What were your favourite songs or albums for 2015? What music are you most looking forward to next year?
Probably for me (Jack) would have to be Bring Me The Horizon, another notable album this year would be The Maine’s American Candy, we all have our respective influences that I guess overtime play a huge part in the songwriting process which we have been focused on this year.
Where have you performed? What are your favourite shows to play at?
With this band Short Term we have only played a few shows so the highlight to come would defiantly be Moomba festival,
If you had unlimited amounts of money, what would be your dream gig or tour? Where would it be, who would be playing, etc?
A tour of the US with local US bands.
What’s the plan for your band in 2016, what will you be doing or working on?
During 2016 we will be working on getting more local gigs to help prepare ourselves for the grand final in March. We hope to release a few originals in the beginning of 2016 and expand our fan base.
