Selling Time took out first place at the FReeZA Push Start Northern Metro Regional Final on September 12 in Diamond Creek. They will join eight other regional final winners to play at the FReeZA Push Start Grand Final to be held at Melbourne’s Moomba Festival on Friday 11 March, 2016.
What’s the name of your band, who’s in it and where are you guys from?
We are Selling Time, consisting of Jack on guitar, Soren on drums and Harry on lead vocals and bass. We’re based in Warrandyte.
Briefly tell us the story behind your band and how long you’ve been making music and writing songs?
We met in early high school and really formed as musicians over the last 4 years together. We ‘cut our teeth’ with this band as they say.
What are your band’s musical influences? Have they evolved from when you guys first started out?
Our influences include bands like Violent Soho, Alice In Chains and Queens of the Stone Age. Although, our individual tastes have radically expanded over the years we still stay true to an Alternative Rock sound.
Which Regional Final did you win, and how was the FReeZA Push Start competition experience for you guys?
We enjoyed a very hot and sunny day winning the Diamond Creek heat. There were definitely lots of interesting acts to check out on the day, we thoroughly enjoyed playing the gig.
You’ll now be battling it out with eight other bands at the Grand Final at Melbourne’s Moomba Festival 2016 for a pretty sweet prize pack. Which prize excites you most and why?
It’s really not about the prizes for us. Every gig that we get to play to more people and showcase what we have to offer is a pleasure. Playing live is just a blast so we love getting to anticipate such an awesome gig. And then getting to play it!
What were your favourite songs or albums for 2015? What music are you most looking forward to next year?
Lots of cool Aussie music came out in the last year especially from bands like The Drones and Tame Impala. Our drummer is really digging Melbourne band Hiatus Kaiyote at the moment too, so lots of cool and creative stuff going on in the scene.
Where have you performed? What are your favourite shows to play at?
We all agree that The Espy is our favourite and most played at venue. The Gershwin Room there just has such a great vibe and awesome sound, we just love getting in there and having a big, loud rock show.
If you had unlimited amounts of money, what would be your dream gig or tour?
A massive festival with just all our favourite and best Aussie bands ever. That would totally be awe inspiring! Just like Silverchair, Karnivool, Violent Soho, all those guys.
What’s the plan for your band in 2016, what will you be doing or working on?
The plan at the moment is the release of an EP we just finished recording. We’re pretty proud of the lively sound we achieved and we’re psyched to share it with new ears!
