Ember Rain took out first place at the FReeZA Push Start Western Metro Regional Final on December 6, 2014 in Bacchus Marsh. They will join eight other regional final winners to play at the FReeZA Push Start Grand Final to be held at the City Of Melbourne’s Moomba Festival on Saturday March 7, 2015.
Hi Ember Rain, what’s the name of your band, who’s in it and where are you guys from?
Ember Rain are Chris Agnew, David Agnew, Chrissy Clark and Adam Mercante. We’re from Hillside, Bacchus Marsh and Hoppers Crossing, winning Battle of the Bands in Melton.
Briefly tell us the story behind your band and how long you’ve been making music and writing songs?
Twins Chris and Dave had been playing together since they were children, they decided they wanted to form with some others and start a band. Adam and his cousin Chrissy, again had been playing music together since they were kids, answered an ad on the internet for the two brothers looking to start a band. They came together, even though they had different and similar influences, it’s what was needed to create the music that is Ember Rain. With their catchy punk rock riffs, to the some double kick break downs, and then to some serious solo’s, they feel they add a bit extra to the usual stereotype of their genre. They recorded their first EP in mid to late 2014, and are now very excited to get back into writing to get their next EP recorded and released mid 2015.
What are your band’s musical influences? Have they evolved from when you guys first started out?
Chris and Dave aren’t particularly influenced by certain bands but rather a variety of songs from different genres, mostly metal, classic rock, rock. Chrissy and Adam are heavily influenced from a punk rock background including bands Blink 182, The Offspring and Paramore. They have evolved in the sense, that we are now exploring each other’s influences, which has been great.
Which Regional Final did you win, and how was the FReeZA Push Start competition experience for you guys?
We won the Melton City Council heat. We have participated in previous Freeza events in different areas before, and the Melton heat was run really as well. We felt welcomed, the hired sound engineers were very good, and our instrument changeovers went very smoothly. All the youth workers were very helpful also. The judges have been really great to talk to, they have constructively helped us grow with the advice.
You’ll now be battling it out with eight other bands at the Grand Final at Melbourne’s Moomba Festival 2015 for a pretty sweet prize pack. Which prize excites you most and why?
All the prizes that help promote the band, are the prizes we are very excited about, like the posters, t shirts and copies of the EP.
What were your favourite songs or albums for 2014? What music are you most looking forward to next year?
A couple of songs that have come out in 2014 that have been great, AC/DC – Rock or Bust, Fall Out Boy – Centuries. It’s hard to really say what music we will look forward to in 2015, as we know, music can change so much in a small space of time.
Where have you performed? What are your favourite shows to play at?
Mynt lounge (Werribee), Vinyl bar (Moonee Ponds), The Soundbar (Hoppers Crossing), Djerriwarrh Festival (Melton), The Eye Festival (Taylors Hill), RAW Showcase (Melbourne Pavilion).
If you had unlimited amounts of money, what would be your dream gig or tour? Where would it be, who would be playing, etc?
Our dream tour would be America, touring all states! To play alongside Blink 182 or even AC/DC would be a dream come true.
What’s the plan for your band in 2015, what will you be doing or working on?
We are in talks now to record our second EP. We also hope to release an album at the end of year.
Where can fans find out more about you and upcoming shows?
