FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands: Finalists set to compete at Moomba for $11k+ grand prize

The nine finalists for the Freeza Push Start Battle of the Bands 2014 series beat over 350 bands across Victoria to earn their spot at the Grand Final at Melbourne’s Moomba Festival on March 7, where they will be competing for a $11k+ prize pack. This year’s finalists will be bringing a wide variety of styles to the festival with rap, metal, rock and folk music being some of the genres on display.

Meet the finalists on our Band Interview page: The Bean Project (Upway), Ember Rain (Melton), The Evercold (Narre Warren), The Flats (Wellington), Horris Green (Ballarat), The Quick and the Dead (Wangaratta), A-Ron and J.Jay (Craigieburn), Requiem (Horsham) and Revolution (Golden Plains).

Following the competition, The Push Stage will feature headliners Japanese Wallpaper, Yeo, Tully on Tully, and Stax Osset, followed by the Moomba fireworks at 9.30pm.

Hilltop Hoods Initiative open for applications

One emerging Australian hip hop/soul artist will have the opportunity to fast track their career with the 2015 Hilltop Hoods Initiative. Valued at $10,000, the initiative is open to all up-and-coming hip hop/soul artists or groups who have not yet released an album professionally. The initiative is aimed at funding costs associated with the manufacture, release and promotion of a debut album. Applications close March 3, there’s more info at www.hilltophoods.com


Sound Engineer and Film Crew wanted

Tram Sessions is a not-for-profit project that takes the joy of live music to Melbourne trams for your commuting. They’re on the lookout for a Sound Engineer and Film Crew (volunteer) to join the team. The Under Age recruiting new journalists

The Under Age is looking for a group of seven new young journalists to join the team for 2015. The Under Age is an online newspaper written entirely by Victorian high school journalists, covering news, sport, politics, art and culture. Each fortnight the group will meet with industry professionals to learn about working in journalism and to workshop story ideas. Performance artists wanted for theatre

Platform Youth Theatre, in collaboration with La Mama, is looking to work with 15 young and emerging artists to create 15 short performances at the theatre on Faraday Street, Carlton.
