Against Our Pride took out first place at the FReeZA Push Start Barwon South West Regional Final on October 24 in Teesdale. They will join eight other regional final winners to play at the FReeZA Push Start Grand Final to be held at Melbourne’s Moomba Festival on Friday 11 March, 2016.

againstourpride2Hi guys, what’s the name of your band, who’s in it and where are you guys from?

Against Our Pride are Jack Hassard, Harry Johnson, Aidan Simpson, Liam Elliot and David Parkes. We are from Warrnambool Victoria.

Briefly tell us the story behind your band and how long you’ve been making music and writing songs?

We formed together around March this year, as part of the Emmanuel College VET Music program, playing for assessments, then eventually developed into an actual band, playing shows including opening for Make Them Suffer on their recent tour!

What are your band’s musical influences? Have they evolved from when you guys first started out?

As individuals we all listen to a lot of different music styles and draw influence from many different bands but these are some of the metal bands that definitely influence our writing; In Hearts Wake, Parkway Drive, Northlane, Intervals.

Which Regional Final did you win, and how was the FReeZA Push Start competition experience for you guys?

We played in the Golden Plains final, and it was a great experience! Making connections with the locals, and other musicians was fantastic we met a lot of awesome people!

You’ll now be battling it out with eight other bands at the Grand Final at Melbourne’s Moomba Festival 2016 for a pretty sweet prize pack. Which prize excites you most and why?

The Prize that excites us the most is the recording and producing session! As we don’t have much professionally recorded material, we would take full advantage of this!

What were your favourite songs or albums for 2015? What music are you most looking forward to next year?

We all have different music tastes, but here’s an answer from each member!
Harry: Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit – Courtney Barnett
Aidan: Periphery; Juggernaut, Alpha and Omega
Liam & Jack: Really hyped for Shape Of Colour – Intervals!
David: Lost Isles – Oceans Ate Alaska

Where have you performed? What are your favourite shows to play at?

We have played at the following venues: The Loft, Warrnambool. We love playing the Loft, Jarrod (the owner) is a legend and has supported us since the start. They are also up for Regional Venue of the Year! We feel The Loft deserves it 100%, it is a great venue who supports local music, helping anyone from Students, Small Local bands, to international artists! We recommend it with a 5 star rating! Your Break, Warrnambool. The Lighthouse Theatre, Warrnambool. Emmanuel College, Warrnambool. Turtle Bend Reserve, Teesdale. St Patricks Primary School, Port Fairy.

If you had unlimited amounts of money, what would be your dream gig or tour? Where would it be, who would be playing, etc?

A world tour with the boys from Parkway Drive and In Hearts Wake would be the dream. Focusing shows in Australia, U.S.A and the UK.

What’s the plan for your band in 2016, what will you be doing or working on?

In 2016 we will be releasing more recorded material, so we will be focusing on writing, and recording. We are looking forward to the year ahead, as it will be a big year for the band.
