The Push is a Victorian non-profit youth music organisation which was established in 1986. Through a wide range of music related programs we aim to educate, entertain, inspire and empower young people.
The Push runs a range of programs and projects such as FReeZA training, mentoring and awards programs, the annual Push Over Festival, hip hop programs such as Push It!, annual music industry conference Face The Music Conference, hip hop event Our Backyard, Push Songs songwriting workshops and FReeZA Push Start state-wide band competition.
The Push produces successful programs throughout regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne. To date more than 600,000 young Victorians have participated in Push programs.
The Push works with music for young people as event organisers, audiences, community members and creative artists in a range of programs including band competitions, dance workshops, mentoring, and creative and professional development programs.
The Push provides information and support to all young people in Victoria who wish to stage drug, alcohol and smoke-free entertainment or who wish to develop a career in the music industry.
Many successful high profile bands and artists have been discovered and many young people starting out in the music industry have gained experience and training via their involvement with The Push. The Push has strong associations with bands, DJs, managers, booking agencies, security firms, sound & lighting companies, local, metropolitan and national radio, street press, regional and national television, mainstream media, record companies, staging companies, publicists and graphic artists.
The Push is currently funded through the Office for Youth, FReeZA Support Service program. The FReeZA Support Service is a Victorian Government funded program that provides expert industry advice, support and training to local governments, community organisations and young people participating in the FReeZA program. We also partner with numerous other music industry organisations to deliver our programs including Arts Victoria, the Arts Centre, APRA and many more. The Push Incorporated is a not-for-profit organisation and donations of $2 and over are fully tax deductible.

The Push was established to provide opportunities for young people to access affordable, drug, alcohol and smoke-free events and to have the option to participate in the life of the local community. The Push recognises that the arts in Australia, especially popular art forms like rock and dance/DJ music are a source of pleasure and social connection for many young people.
For some, the arts provide a positive sense of self, offering opportunities for leadership, creative thinking, developing a sense of community, and personal excellence. The Push aims to support young people to develop personally and professionally through the power of music. Through a supportive framework we aim to make meaningful connections between the music industry and young people, enabling them to contribute to their community.
