FReeZa Push Start finalists Abdominal Incision tells us a little about the band and their plans after the upcoming Push Start Competition at St Kilda Festival.
What’s the name of your band, who’s in it and where are you all from?
We are Abdominal Incision. We are made up of Kobi, Shaun and myself (Reece). Kobi and myself are from Chiltern and Shaun is from Barnawatha.
Briefly tell us the story behind your band and how long you’ve been making music and writing songs?
Kobi and myself first though of the idea back in early 2014 when Kobi was given a guitar by his older stepbrother – and I had some basic knowledge of drums – we attempted to try and compose some original music whilst trying to cover some basic songs such as ACDC – Back In Black. It was only a couple of days until the thought faded off and we got carried away with other things. We let the whole band idea disappear although we did pursue in our own individual instruments to progress daily. In July 2015 the idea came again, we originally recruited Shaun as rhythm guitarist and we had a few more band members from Wodonga who had very little knowledge about their instruments and had trouble getting to and from band practice on a regular basis. We soon realised this was not going to work out. We had to let those boys go and Shaun, Kobi and myself started taking it seriously. We practiced every Monday and occasionally Thursday covering some Green Day and ACDC. We started listening to some heavier music and soon enough we had covered a few songs by Chelsea Grin and Parkway Drive. We then created our first original song and have barely covered one ever since!
What are your band’s musical influences? Have they evolved from when the band first started out?
We idolised bands such as Chelsea Grin, Infant Annihilator, Thy Art Is Murder and Parkway Drive. Our last song has been a huge improvement since our first. You would barely recognise we were the same band if you heard them both.
Which Regional Final did you win, and how was the FReeZA Push Start competition experience for you all?
We won the Hume reginal final in Beechworth. The experience was amazing we loved and appreciated every second of it.
You’ll now be battling it out with eight other bands at the Grand Final at The Push Stage at St Kidla Festival 2017 for a pretty sweet prize pack. Which prize excites you most and why?
We have very little knowlage of what prizes are available, we are most excited to get our name out and be on stage! Although a funded recording session would be insane!
What were your favourite songs or albums for 2016? What music are you most looking forward to next year?
We never really favoured albums in particular but more the songs themselves, we loved anything by Infant Annihilator, Thy Art Is Murder, and Parkway Drive. We are most looking forward for more gigs next year and to get our name out as much as possible.
Where have you performed? What are your favourite shows to play at?
We have performed at Chiltern skate park, Corowa skate park, Yackandandah, and Beechworth. I will say on behalf of the band that Beechworth was our favourite.
If you had unlimited amounts of money, what would be your dream gig or tour?
We would love travel the world all over. Nowhere special or in particular.
What’s the plan for your band in 2017, what will you be doing or working on?
We will most definitely be working on producing more and better original music and hopefully be able to realise an EP to the public.
